Mission Statement

The mission of the Vernon Fire Marshal's Office is to provide for life safety and to prevent injury, loss and suffering due to fire. This is accomplished by education, prevention and investigation.

The Fire Marshal's Office provides public fire and life safety education throughout the year. We utilize the media, public gatherings, school and pre-school visits, informational handouts, senior housing visits and direct one on one contact to deliver our message.

Our office investigates fires to determine their origin and cause. In doing so, we prevent future fires by determining what happened. Sometimes that determination leads to product recalls or educational efforts to avoid a re-occurrence of an unsafe act or condition. Changes to the fire safety code are sometimes made based on fire causes.

Additionally, fire prevention is provided by inspection and enforcement. The Fire Marshal's Office reviews plans for new construction to ensure compliance with the requirements of the CT. Fire Safety Code. Existing buildings are inspected for their continued compliance with the Code.

All the activities of our office have one common goal: PREVENTION. Education, investigation, inspection and enforcement all help prevent fires and provide life safety.
